About the Author
Cathrine Olsen is the founder of the Centre for Coercive Control Education, an educational organization dedicated to helping women and men recognize, understand, rectify and escape coercive control patterns and to support healing and recovery. She is an author and educator, who has lived through the coercive control patterns outlined in this book and her expertise is grounded in both personal experience and extensive study. Cathrine's early life was marked by profound emotional neglect and covert trauma that shaped her understanding of relationships and self-worth. As an adult, she entered partnerships that mirrored these early dynamics—relationships with mentally abusive partners who reinforced patterns of control, self-erasure and dependency.
Raised with the belief that self-erasure was a woman's role within a relationship, Cathrine was taught, by imprinting, that she must rely on a man to create stability and wealth and that over giving and minimizing herself, was the only way of being loved. These imprinted beliefs kept her trapped in cycles of abuse, without fully seeing and understanding the implications and depth of the imprinted belief systems.
Through years of the study of psychology, coercive control dynamics, trauma and her own healing process, Cathrine broke free from the patterns that psychologically trapped her within these belief systems. She now dedicates her work to educating women and men about coercive control- providing clear frameworks for pattern recognition, understanding and pathways for exit and evidence-informed approaches to recovery.
This is the first book in a three-book series on coercive control patterns and recovery, published under the
